Assessments and Screenings
The Ages and Stages Questionnaire: Social-Emotional (ASQ:SE) and the Ages and Stages Questionnaire: Developmental (ASQ:3) are brief screening instruments intended to identify children who may need further evaluation in order to determine if there is any possibility of special need that might affect a child’s overall success in school.
The Early Screening Inventory-Revised Edition (ESI-R) is an individually administered screening instrument used to identify children who may need special education services to perform successfully in school.
The Preschool Language Proficiency Screener (Pre-IPT) is administered to children that speak another language in the home in order to help in program planning and to tailor instruction to support the development of the child’s proficiency in a second language.
Teaching Strategies GOLD is the assessment system for the creative curriculum. It is an ongoing authentic assessment system linked to the curriculum. Teachers observe and record information about children’s learning, document these observations, and provide information to parents about their child’s progress.
Lake Shore Schools is mandated to provide health and education screenings to all children enrolled in a City of Chicago funded program. Lake Shore Schools is obligated to receive parental permission and inform parents prior to the screenings. Screenings will take place within 45 days of the first day of attendance. Children receive screenings related to speech and language, developmental skills, social-emotional development, hearing/vision, and height/weight. Results of children’s screenings will be provided to parent(s)/guardian(s) but otherwise kept confidential.
